Abstract

This study aims to conceptualize the methodology of the Halal Value Chain (HVC) as a pivot for strengthening Indonesia's national halal manufacturing ecosystem, reframing food, cosmetics, and logistics components as integrated sub-systems within a single manufacturing architecture rather than isolated, sector-specific entities. This research employs a Systematic Literature Network Review using a Directed Qualitative Content Analysis (DQCA) approach, synthesizing 26 curated documents selected through a transparent data selection protocol from an initial pool of 87 records retrieved from Google Scholar and Scopus. The data analysis was structured into three sequential model-engineering stages: Nodal Identification, Gap Framework Mapping, and Ecosystem Integration. The findings present a multilevel operational taxonomy of HVC methodology comprising three hierarchical phases Pre-Production, Manufacturing, and Post-Production & Logistics that shifts the halal paradigm from a final-product status to a process-embedded quality parameter across the manufacturing chain. A structural gap analysis further reveals that the widest disparities lie in raw-material traceability, halal-certified supplier networks, and green-halal reverse logistics, none of which are adequately captured by existing literature. The discussion advances a paradigm deconstruction from symbolic compliance toward substantive integrity, and positions value-chain digitalization particularly blockchain-based traceability and IoT-enabled monitoring as a strategic contamination-risk mitigation instrument rather than a mere operational enhancement. The study concludes that strengthening the national halal manufacturing ecosystem requires regulatory bodies such as BPJPH and KNEKS to reposition halal certification institutions as system-engineering partners, accelerate national green-halal reverse logistics standards, and establish an integrated ecosystem-coordination platform connecting producers, suppliers, logistics providers, and certification bodies.
